Futures P/L and ROE calculator
For USDT-margined (linear) futures: profit or loss, the margin you put up and the return on it, before and after fees.
How it's calculated
- P/L = (exit − entry) × quantity for a long, (entry − exit) × quantity for a short. Long 0.1 at 60,000, exit 63,000: 3,000 × 0.1 = 300 USDT.
- Initial margin = entry × quantity ÷ leverage = 6,000 ÷ 10 = 600 USDT.
- ROE = P/L ÷ initial margin = 300 ÷ 600 = 50%.
- Fees are charged on the position value at each side: 6,000 × 0.05% + 6,300 × 0.05% = 3.00 + 3.15. After fees: 293.85 USDT, ROE 48.975%.
Questions
What is the difference between ROE and P/L?
P/L is the profit in USDT. ROE relates it to the margin you put up, so the same P/L shows a higher ROE at higher leverage — and so does the same loss.
Does leverage change my profit?
Not for the same position size. Leverage reduces the margin needed, which raises ROE in both directions and brings the liquidation price closer.
Why are fees so large compared with the margin?
Fees are charged on the full position value, not on the margin. At 10x leverage a 0.05% fee per side is 1% of the margin for a round trip.
Does it work for coin-margined (inverse) contracts?
No. Inverse contracts settle in the coin and use a different formula. This calculator is for USDT-margined linear contracts only.
