Trading cost calculator
Enter your spread and commission to see what you pay per lot, per month and per year in your account currency.
How it's calculated
- Pip value of 1 lot = pip size × contract size, converted to your account currency. EUR/USD: 0.0001 × 100,000 = $10.00.
- Spread in pips: points ÷ 10 on currency pairs. 12 points = 1.2 pips.
- Cost per lot = spread in pips × pip value + round-turn commission. 1.2 × $10.00 + $3.50 × 2 = $19.00.
- Per month = cost per lot × lots. $19.00 × 100 = $1,900.00; per year × 12 = $22,800.00.
- Rebate (optional) = lots × rebate per round-turn lot. With an example rate of $8: 100 × $8 = $800.00 per month, covering 800 ÷ 1,900 = 42.11% of the costs.
The $8 rate is an example for the arithmetic, not a quote. Swaps and overnight financing are not included.
Questions
What counts as trading costs here?
The spread you pay when you open a position and the commission per lot. Overnight financing (swaps) depends on how long you hold a position and is not included.
What is the difference between points and pips?
On currency pairs a pip is the fourth decimal (the second for JPY pairs), and a point is one tenth of a pip. Most trading platforms show the spread in points, so 12 points equal 1.2 pips.
Is my commission per side or round-turn?
Per side means you pay it when opening and again when closing; round-turn is the total for both. If your platform quotes $3.50 per side, the round-turn cost is $7.00 per lot.
Why is the pip value not $10 for my instrument?
The pip value is $10 per lot only when the second currency of the pair matches your account currency. Otherwise it is converted at the current rate, which is why the calculator asks for the price and, when needed, a conversion rate.
Where do the conversion rates come from?
They are prefilled with European Central Bank reference rates, with the date shown under each field. Metals are not covered by those rates, so enter the current price from your platform. Every rate can be edited.
